Junior Astronomers

Loud and Fast

Some new art…

…is on the way. I’ll be posting a few things soon, both JA and non JA related. Keep an eye out!

Also, for anyone who hasn’t yet, Check out both of the 2011 Des Ark records. Don’t Rock the Boat, Sink the Fucker has one of my favorite songs of the year on it. In which case, if you’ve never listened to her at all, do it.

Also just recently heard of Mass Movement of the Moth, and although they aren’t a band anymore, they have some crazy, weird songs. Members of Des Ark and Circle Takes the Square…and that’s actually what they sounded like.

I don’t usually say a lot…so I won’t say anymore.

Elias

Everyone check out this new stuff from some of our best friends.

R.L. Burnside - Let My Baby Ride
I bought a shirt at Hot Topic when I was in middle school, and it came with a Vans compilation that had this song on it as well as “New Noise” by Refused … my life changed that day.
Rancid - Django
Rancid’s Indestructible, NOFX’s Punk In Drublic, and Social Distortion’s self-titled album were the first punk rock albums I ever owned.  Before a show, I typically like to ingest a healthy dose of said albums.  This song always does it for me: amped, ramped, and ready to slay. - Trae Vedder
Lynyrd Skynyrd - I Know A Little
The Rosewood Thieves - Silver Gun - Paul Doss *Song is currently not on Spotify
Paul & Linda McCartney - Monkberry Moon Delight
Well, the first line is “So I sat in the attic, a piano up my nose”… yeah, that’s good enough for me.
J. Roddy Walston & The Business - Don’t Break The Needle
This is great driving music, also a good sing along, a must for a van playlist. - J. Betts
Pink Floyd - Sleep *Song is currently not on Spotify
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
These aren’t songs, rather composers creating art. - Greg Neel
Black Sabbath - Hole in the Sky
Perfect driving/touring music. Here in Atlanta there is a big revival of riff heavy bands that are influenced by these guys but they seem so boring in comparison. It makes complete sense because this song has an energy you just can’t duplicate, trust me Ive tried. I wish I could write songs this gigantic sounding. They made it seem so effortless.
Social Distortion - Reach for the Sky
We had the honor of playing with these guys last year and it is definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had. Mike Ness is just eternally cool. If Black Sabbath makes me want to grow my hair even longer and head bang all day, these guys make me want to cut it short, slick it back, and get tattoos on my knuckles. Such authentic attitude. - Daniel Gleason

Prince - When Doves Cry
This song right here moves me on a spiritual level.
At The Drive In - Napoleon Solo
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. - Terrence Richard
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Its just a straight forward rock n roll song. Plus he’s black and Irish and thats so cool.
Rolling Stones - Beast of Burden
This is too sexy not to be on a playlist. - Philip Wheeler
Bridge And Tunnel - Rubrics
makes me want to have an influence of someone
Des Ark - Waitin *Song is currently not on Spotify
Theres a line in that reminds me a friend that past recently. - Elias Pittman
Wu Tang - C.R.E.A.M
Its motivates me. It gets me lifted.
Frank Sinatra - Fly Me To The Moon
Frank is the blueprint for cool. - Jeff Saer
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
The grandeur and the heaviness of this song blows me away.
Marvin Gaye - Whats Going On
James Jameson and the social commentary really just makes this a perfect song. - Colin Watts

The Throne - Why I Love You (feat. Mr. Hudson)
This is one of those songs that the second I heard it I froze. I knew I loved it in a few seconds. I’m always looking for songs like that. Most songs I love don’t instantly connect with me but I’m amazed at the songs that do. The chorus is a universal anthem.
Portugal The Man - The Sun
I’m really getting into everything I see as “art pop” and most the songs on this playlist are my definition of it.  This song makes me feel so happy every time I hear it. John Gourley has one of my favorite falsetto’s ever and anytime a song has high male and female vocals I’m usually all about it.

Album release went swimmingly. Here’s a clip of the encore for y’all.

UEL//THE WEEKS

 Thick as Thieves

Focus

How abstract can an idea be but still accepted by the majority of people. I’ve been thinking about a-lot recently and how we are always told what a word means but people all have different memories connected to any word you say/write/etc. I could write love in a song and so many different things come to mind. The power of every piece is what evades me and makes it impossible to be positive of everything in a song.

I ask myself why I create and then I remember why I fell in love with writing. Sometimes you are your own worst enemy.
